For those of you who will be judges, requirements state that you must have at least one year experience as a black belt. The judge's conference will be at 9:30 am at the wellness center in the center Court Gym on March 29, 2008.

South Atlantic Karate Association Tournament Rules & Requirements

Equipment:

Clean Karate Gi 

Men's groin cup. Women's chest cups. Mouth piece. 

No protective arm, leg or other padding permitted. 

No eyeglasses permitted.

Kumite Rules:

Matches last two (2) minutes, or end after one full point is scored by ippon (one point) or two wazari (half points). 

During the kumite match, each corner judge has one vote referee has two votes.

If a decision is called at end of match, judges and referees each have one vote.

Permitted attacks:   

Fist: Fore fist, back fist. Punching: reverse & lunge punch. Kick: Front, roundhouse, side & back kicks.

Sweeps: May only hold opponent during a sweep.

Prohibited attacks:  

No attack with open hands, knees, stomps, elbows, head butts, or grabbing.

General Rules:        

No contact permitted. Light face contact or body will constitute a warning. 

Excessive contact, non-sportsman like conduct, or accumulation of warnings may result in disqualification.

Tied match settled by immediate overtime, first half point wins.
