Karate Do was born in Okinawa and introduced to the mainland by Master Gichin Funakoshi in 1922. His first Dojo was called Shotokan. Shoto was master Funakoshi's pen name when writing, meaning Pine Wave or the sway of the Pine trees in the wind. Literally translated Shotokan means House of Shoto

JKA/WF Coconut Creek Karate was established in 1987. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. White belt and up class from 6pm to 7pm and Black and Brown Belts from 7pm to 8:30pm in the Plum room at Coconut Creek Recreation Complex 4455 Sol Press Blvd Coconut Creek, FL 33073.

 

Instructors

Tom Leeman is the main instructor at Coconut Creek Karate Club. Tom's JKA rank is Yon Dan or 4th degree black belt which he received from Master Hideo Ochi 8th Dan JKA Germany and Master Shigeru Takashina 9th Dan JKA in 2006. Cici Homrich is a 3rd Dan JKA and has study karate for over 30 years.
